Tips for Decorating your Home Office

During these hectic times, social distancing is being enforced nationwide causing a spike in remote work. If you are one of the many people who has transitioned to working from home, here are a few tips to help you create a workspace that is comfortable, welcoming, and improves productivity.

Create the Ideal Lighting

Studies show that the right lighting can have a tremendous impact on work productivity. The best type of lighting that an office can have for optimized productivity is good old natural daylight.

Installing solar screen shades allows you to harvest the bright and beautiful sunlight while minimizing screen glare and lower the effects of harmful UV rays that come with it.

Another great way to improve your office lighting is with LED lights which emits a bright white light that mimics daylight. Keep in mind, lightbulbs need to be replaced more often than solar shades would.

Set the ambiance with Sounds and Smells

For some, working from home is the best thing since sliced bread, for others, it’s a difficult task. Working from home can be very distracting for some, as it doesn’t have the same ambiance as a conventional office space.

One way to relax the nerves and create a productive space is through your senses.

Find a playlist such as “Brain concentration Music” or “Sound Waves” that you can play in the background to help your mind focus.

Lighting candles or using essential oils can also help with concentration.

Consider Feng Shui

Take a look at your office set up. Does it look inviting? Is this a space you enjoy going to 5 days per week and spending 8+ hours a day in? If not, its time to redecorate.

Feng shui is a great tool for designing a space based on its goal. For example, for greater productivity it may be recommended to:

•have your desk facing a certain direction

•add plants to your space

•use specific lighting

•incorporate specific colors

•and more.

Eliminate Distractions

Basically, anything that can take your concentration away for your tasks at hand, needs to be eliminated or made less obvious.

If your distraction seems to be due to a lack of privacy or noises from outside, window treatments can help with this.

The right window treatment solution can help you enjoy natural light while maintaining your daytime privacy and can even reduce outside noise.

Working from home can be a daunting process for some, but with the right help, your home office can be a space of tranquility, joy, and improved productivity.
